In the case of boxing gloves, the size is not given, but the weight of the glove in ounces. 1 Oz is 28.4 grams, so, for example, 10 OZ gloves weigh 284 grams and 12 OZ gloves weigh 340.8 grams. However, the weight of boxing gloves is partly related to their size. A typical size for an adult male is a 10 oz glove. This size is especially recommended for training on instruments. In the case of sparring, 12, 14 and even 16 oz gloves are used to provide more protection for the partner. In the case of women, it is common to select boxing gloves of 8 or 10 oz.

Typical weight boxing gloves for children there is a weight of 6 and 8 oz. It is assumed that for children up to 8 years of age, 6 oz gloves are sufficient and for 8 to 13 years of age, 8 oz gloves are sufficient. From the age of 14, they are already mostly sized as for adults.

Choosing boxing gloves - what weight and size to choose?

For novice boxing and muay thai enthusiasts, a key question is which gloves they should choose. When we talk about the "size" of gloves, we often refer to their weight, which is measured in ounces (oz). We present below the different weight categories of gloves and their purpose:

• 8 oz - 10 oz - ideal for children, ladies and men weighing up to 70 kg. Use them mainly for training, target practice or bags. Due to their low weight, they are not recommended for sparring.
• 12 oz - is a versatile choice for boxing gloves. Perfect for fitness training, technical exercises, target work and even mild sparring. Ideal for those just starting out.
• 14 oz - gloves of this weight are similar in use to those weighing 12 oz, but are aimed at heavier individuals or those who want to increase their endurance and power by training with heavier loads.
• 16 oz - 18 oz - most often chosen for sparring or by people with heavier weights.

However, when choosing boxing gloves, it is worth paying attention not only to their weight, but also to their construction. It is possible that the gloves of two different brands have the same weight, but differ in appearance. For example, gloves with a flat profile are more versatile for training, while those with a narrower shape are ideal for target practice, providing greater precision and focusing of hitting power.
