Boxing helmet - how to choose the right model and size, what to follow when choosing?
Boxing helmet - take care of your safety
It doesn't matter what kind of combat sport you train in - if you're going to start sparring you should get a boxing helmet. The head is very sensitive to blows and even seemingly harmless blows over time can lead to serious health problems . Some people don't like to train with a helmet claiming that it restricts their field of vision, however, this is indicative of an ill-fitting size or an ill-fitting model - a well-fitting helmet should in no way impede the fight
Which helmet to choose?
There are many models of helmets available on the market made of both natural leather and skai. If you are just starting out in combat sports or intend to spar occasionally then a plastic helmet will do just fine for you. A much more important feature to pay attention to when buying it is its proper thickness and the right size so that it doesn't slip during the fight .
What size helmet to choose?
Normally helmets are offered in sizes S,M,L, XL this is not the rule, however, and individual sizes may vary from manufacturer to manufacturer so it is important to accurately measure the circumference of your head and match the size to the size chart provided by the manufacturer.
Training helmets with mask or grille
In addition to the traditional sparring or tournament helmets, you will increasingly come across helmets with thermoplastic or metal grille masks on the market. The advantage of using this type of helmet is better protection against straight blows. In traditional sparring helmets, the front part of the face (especially the nose) is exposed and thus vulnerable to injury so it happens that during a strong straight punch despite the use of a helmet you can suffer a severe injury. By using a mask, the whole face is better protected - unfortunately, masks often limit good visibility so some riders are reluctant to use them.
Opponents of the use of helmets with masks / grilles also suggest that they develop bad habits during sparring because we forget to properly protect our face by getting used to the protection that the mask provides us with. Whether to use a helmet with or without a mask is therefore a matter of individual choice - the best solution seems to be to buy a helmet with a mask that can be removed if necessary - you then decide for yourself when to put it on and when to take it off.
